The Auckland council wants to be a pimp for anything to do with the sex industry in Auckland it seems to me. I have heard that the Auckland City Council want to try and Control and Supervise anything to do with sex in Auckland. They want to bring a bill to the government that will allow them to drive street prostitution back underground by harassing people going about their normal business. The excuse the council will use will be the old bogey of health and safety, they say for the participants but I can guess that they really mean the imagined safety of the narrow minded people who object to sex and prostitution. Currently we have laws that cater to the health and safety of sex workers and it is only because of the non-cooperation of the council that their are any problems. For instance if you are a massage parlor and you provide sex services the council will tell you to get a brothel license but when a massage parlor operator applies they will decline the application. They can then use the application which admits it is a brothel to shut the massage parlor down. The council uses the resource management act to fine operators who are other wise complying with bylaws for running a business. why does the council treat the sex business differently from any other business. The reason seams to be that they can make money from the sex industry by making them apply for licenses and them turning them down after the fees have been paid. If the council gains control of the sex industry it will ask for more fees thus pimping itself to be the only entity to make money from prostitutes other than the prostitutes them selves.
The council wants to control the health and safety of the sex industry even though the laws of the country allow the Health department to do it already.
The council wants to control enforcement of prostitution even though if any laws are being broken we already have a perfectly good police force to do this.
The council wants to set up RED light areas in Auckland so all of the sex industry in concentrated so that the narrow minded bigots know where to find them and watch them.
The Auckland city council is still under the impression that normal citizens can see sex through walls so try to control and or supervise it. One day it will be the average NZers room they will try to control. It just begins with prostitutes.
The council wants to control street prostitution by making the workers go where they are told. But it will just drive them underground again as in the past. The police have enough work to do catching real criminals instead of policing the morals of Auckland city. Enough laws are on the books now to control any of the concerns the council may currently have. I can for-see in the future that the council will offer to help the police by enforcing these special laws made just for the Auckland council then asking for the proceeds from the fines so they can pay the private council cops.
They would do well to remember that they are creating criminals from a victimless crime again.
These are the impressions I gained from the bill for Manakau prostitutes bill going to parliament now.
