What has changed in three years
The new laws have been around for about three years now and is there any change??
I think not very much has changed. Most of the council’s seem to be being as obstructive as they can.
Not many actually promote a sensible bylaw or try being helpful they seem to forget that a brothel is a legal business now. The Councils along with a narrow minded minority seem to think that because a place is a brothel that it is inherently bad. This is not the case and most of them are quite tidy and clean. Some councils have made “red light districts” where they want brothels to go (I suppose they all want to be the Amsterdam of the Pacific
Some of the advantages of having a Brothel licence instead of the old massage licence are:…
1. Makes it easier for people to complain because previously when they complained to the police they were told not to waste police time. Now they can complain to the local council who will spend thousands of dollars of ratepayers money to spy on the brothel so that the
council can call in immigration to close them down (only applies to Asian brothels though)
2. Forces a massage parlor who want to become a legal brothel to spend thousands of
dollars on fees and jump through a few hoops (about ten different forms and two or three departments with some councils)before they grant a licence.
3 Requires a brothel to get resource consent for an activity that has not really changed.
4 Requires a licensed brothel to allow the police to walk in whenever they feel like with out warning
5 Require’s a Licenced brothel to allow A Medical officer from the local DHB to walk in when ever they like without warning.
6 Some of the councils allow a new massage parlor to open beside a brothel ..I presume on the assumption they are different (maybe they forget that the law says “sexual gratification” and does not distinguish between full service and half service because they are both sexual gratification.
I have heard of one massage parlor that got a licence and found all of these advantages. In the end they allowed the licence to lapse and sold the business and it is now a massage parlor again. (Not much changes)
There have been complaints about them leaving condoms in parks and on lawns..This is a ridiculous assumption on the part of the persons complaining because it is not in a brothels interest to leave rubbish lying around.
Men doing things in cars.. this is blamed on brothels and the clowns complaining obviously don’t know how to call the police.
Drops the value of the neighbouring houses.. Only if the brothel is a better house than the neighbours.
